What is the Purpose of the Yatra Amarnath?

Jammu: The natural Shiva Lingam formed of ice is located at the Amarnath Cave on a vertical height of 3,888 m. This holy odyssey symbolizes worship towards the supreme God Lord Shiva, who according to Hindu mythology exposed the secrets of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati in this very cave. It is believed that undertaking the Yatra purges the soul of all impurities and leads to the attainment of Moksha or liberation.

Arrival in Srinagar – Sonmarg (80 km / 1 hr 30 min approx)

Your journey commences with your arrival in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar. On arrival at Kashmir, you will be welcomed at the airport and driven to Sonmarg, literally ‘Meadow of Gold’. Along the way, you’ll be treated to stunning views of green valleys, cascading rivers and majestic snow-capped mountains.
Sonmarg: A beautiful hill station, Sonmarg is the base for the Amarnath Yatra. Encircled by the majestic Thajiwas Glacier, it is a perfect place to relax and acclimatize before the climb. Explore pony rides or walk along the banks of the Sindh River, admiring the nice views of the Himalayas. Overnight stay in Sonmarg.

Sonmarg – Neelgrath – Panchtarni – Holy Cave

Early breakfast, and drive to Neelgrath Helipad, and take Helicopter ride to Panchtarni ( last stoppage to holy cave). Helicopter heels and stunning sights: the helicopter rides offer breathtaking views of the Himalayas as you fly over land. After Panchtarni, 6 km to the Amarnath Cave. You can get ponies and palkis to help you. As you reach the holy site, you will see the natural ice Shivlinga, representation of Lord Shiva’s divine existence.
Amarnath Cave: The sacred cave is encircled by rugged mountains providing unmatched spirituality. Within the cave, there were smaller formations that denote Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha beside the naturally developed ice Shivlinga. Many pilgrims say their experience is life-changing—they felt intimately connected to the divine. Post Darshan make your way back to Panchtarni & overnight stay in Camps.

Holy Cave – Panchtarni – Baltal – Sonmarg – Srinagar

Start your helicopter ride down from Panchtarni to Neelgrath. Drive from Neelgrath to Baltal and then drive to Srinagar. Along the way, admire the still beauty of the valleys and rivers. Dal Lake: Arrive Srinagar and visit the famous Dal Lake, the crown of Kashmir. A Shikara ride on the lake provides a peaceful retreat, with houseboats and the towering Zabarwan Range. However not the lake behind the Mughal Gardens is the only visual delight of the region it is also from a cultural focus point representing the final Kashmiri lifestyle. Its timeless appeal is complemented by floating markets and Mughal gardens.
